TUNGUSKA 2001
INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE
CONTENTS
It seemed that it was a proper time to have a new conference of Tunguska,
and Tunguska 2001 sounds rather good. I talked with several Tunguska researchers,
and they approved the idea.
Unfortunately, since early 1960s there are no systematic state-funded
Tunguska research, so since that time almost all Tunguska research, conferences,
were done just with occasional fundings, or even without any funding at
all. Similar situation was in 1995, when Tunguska researchers having no
financial support (Russian Min. of Science and Technology gave some financial
support at the last moment), were able to organize Tunguska 95 international
conference.
Of course, the main topic was Tunguska: factual data, as well as
interpretations of Tunguska. Till now there are about a hundred of hypotheses
- from an iron meteorite fall to poltergeist-like (see, for example,
Abstracts
of the Tunguska 98 conference). And a couple more new ones were delivered
at the TUNGUSKA 2001 conference!
Besides Tunguska, topics of the conference included related items, i.e
other similar (whatever origin, as we don't know Tunguska's origin) similar
natural events (including on other scales).
I am glad to inform you that the conference was successfully finished. All
planned reports (of the Moscow part) were delivered, and as I know, about
the same situation was in Krasnoyarsk with 15 reports delivered.
We had many mass-media, including Russian, German, and Swedish TV at our
conference.
Here is a picture of
Dr.R. Foot delivering his report.
The conference was held in Moscow, a capital of Russia, and in Krasnoyarsk,
Siberia.
In Moscow the conference was held in
Mephi.
Date of the conference was on June 30 - July 1, 2001
in Moscow, and July 2 in Krasnoyarsk, and July 2 - July 7 for the
trip to the Tunguska epicenter (see below).
We had a few days long trip to the Tunguska epicenter right after
the conference, as it was during Tunguska 95 and Tunguska
98 conferences. If you want to better understand what the trip means, you
can look at some pictures.
We are also very grateful to Mr. John Sinclair from USA (www.meteoriteUSA.com) for his finance donation to our conference.
The Moscow part of the conference program (as WORD-file) can be downloaded
here.
Here are the abstracts which were submitted.
Please, pay attention
that some people, who are to deliver their reports don't submit yet, so I hope
to add them later. Also several abstracts are from people, who are not able
to attend.
Many abstracts are just in Russian (by the way, try "DOS"-Cyrillic code in your IE,
if Russian letters are not downloaded correctly). I translated their titles,
and authors names in English.
Remarkably, that despite the number of submitted abstracts is a little bit less
than during
the 1998 Tunguska conference (unfortunately this time
we have no funding, and no ability to publish abstracts, and proceedings, unlike
in 1998), there is still a large number of abstracts on 'terrestrial'
interpretation of Tunguska, and moreover the terrestrial/meteorite ratio seems
even to increase since the 1998 Tunguska conference.
Anyway, read them yourself!
